FINE ART PORTRAITURE
“Tif is amazing to work with. Not only is she an incredibly skilled and creative photographer, but she thinks outside the box and focuses on the individual subject for every shoot.”
“[Tif] has a great eye for bringing out the personalities of the people she photographs. Her photos tell stories.“
"You capture people’s songs and remind them of them. You sing what people may have forgotten or might not have been able to see.”
“Every time I see your images I feel like I understand, even if I can’t articulate it accurately in words, what you are saying/showing/giving voice to.”
Thank you for your interest in my fine art portrait work. I have a studio in my home in Lubbock, Texas, and I often schedule “mobile portrait tours” to other areas across the state and beyond, as well as “portrait booths” as a vendor at professional conferences throughout the year.
I specialize in fine art studio portraiture for one person (solo sessions) or two people (duo sessions), as well as pets. Aside from the fact that my studio is small, I prefer focusing on solo and duo sessions because I can more fully engage one or two people in front of my camera at once, thus resulting in more personal and expressive photographs.
My portraits are less about documentation and more about expression. I use light and shadow to create depth and drama in my portraits, visually and emotionally. I use primarily dark backgrounds, including classic black seamless paper as well as my own hand-painted canvas drops in dark earth tones. My inspiration comes from Renaissance painters Caravaggio and Rembrandt and Baroque painter Gentileschi, and I enjoy creative experimentation in the studio (my long exposure images of musicians playing their instruments are popular). My ultimate goal when I pick up the camera is to make art with you. I want to create images that will remind you who you are at the core of your being and inspire you to stay true to that person as you travel your path.
Where will the session take place?
When you book a session I’ll send you my studio address. For those familiar with the layout of Lubbock, it’s in Tech Terrace.
What should I wear?
You should feel free to wear whatever is most you. Even against a dark background, dark clothing works well. Lighter clothing is fine. Bright colors, also fine so long as it feels natural to you.
Do you provide a hair and makeup artist on-site?
No, I don’t provide hair and makeup at my studio. I’m happy to provide local recommendations, though if possible, I would suggest going to someone with whom you’ve worked before to ensure that your hair and makeup are just how you want them for your images.
How long will the session last?
Sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. If you need to be in and out in a certain amount of time, I can accommodate but please let me know at the time of booking.
How much does a session cost?
For time in studio, time editing, and licensing to use the images for personal promotion, my rates are as follows:*
— $300 for solo sessions ($200 for students)
— $400 for duo sessions
— $200 for pets
*commercial licensing for album/book covers, advertising, etc., requires a separate negotiated contract and fee
How will I receive my images, and how many will I get?
I‘ll select the ten strongest portraits from your session to edit and include in your final set. You will receive an email containing a download link within a week of your session.
There is also the option to purchase matted fine art prints of individual images from your session. You may purchase these individually, or as a complete set of ten 11x14 matted fine art prints preserved in a Legacy Presentation Box (photos of a sample box coming soon).
Can I edit my images after I receive them?
Portraiture is art, whether a painting or a photograph. The creative decisions made in-studio and in post-processing are an expression of my vision, and the final images that you receive are a result of that expression. Please do not add filters when posting to social media, or alter the images in any way. I am happy to create monochrome conversions of any images in your set at no extra cost to you.
